A method of treatment for the promotion of nerve regeneration, including axonal regrowth, axonal outgrowth, and prevention of growth cone collapse, in cases of acute neuronal injury, such as crush injury, acute stroke, ischaemia, neurotraumatic insult, spinal cord injury and neurotrauma in humans or non-human mammals, which method comprises the administration of an effective, non-toxic and pharmaceutically acceptable amount of a GSK-3 inhibitor or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof.
