PURPOSE: A power control device for a display device and a method therefor are provided to quickly supply power to the display device in response to the error input of an off-key. CONSTITUTION: A key input unit(11) inputs a power on/off command and user request commands. If a user inputs the power off command through the key input unit, a control unit(100) mutes an image signal and a voice signal during a predetermined delay time and controls a lamp driving unit(50) to continuously drive a lamp(60). If a power on command is not inputted during the predetermined delay time through the key input unit, the control unit turns off a lamp power and a main power. The lamp driving unit drives the lamp according to a control signal of the control unit.
