PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely and easily producing phosphorus-containing butadiene compound(s) in high selectivity and in an industrially advantageous way without using any toxic halide. SOLUTION: The method comprises the following process: A reaction is carried out between a hydrophosphorus compound of gneral formula(1):X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>P(O)H and an acetylene compound of general formula(2):R<SP>1</SP>(R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>CH)C(OH)C≡CR<SP>4</SP>to produce the objective phosphorus-containing butadiene compound of general formula(3):R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>C=C(R<SP>1</SP>)-CH=CR<SP>4</SP>[P(O)X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>] or general forrmula(4):R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>C=C(R<SP>1</SP>)-C[P(O)X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>]=CR<SP>4</SP>H. In general formula(1), X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are each an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, alkenyl, alkoxy or aryloxy. In general formula(2), R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each H, an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, alkenyl, alkoxy, aryloxy or silyl. In general formula(3) and general formula(4), R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>, and X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are the same as mentioned above, respectively.
