PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of ensuring a wide work space in an upper part of a car when the car rises up to the uppermost part in a shaft even if a machine room is not installed in the upper part of the elevator shaft. SOLUTION: This elevator device is provided with the car elevating and lowering in the elevator shaft, a counterweight elevating and lowering in a clearance formed between at least a shaft wall on one side among shaft walls except a shaft wall on which landing place entrance for an elevator is provided and the car, and a driving device provided in an upper part of the shaft in such a way that it does not come into contact with the car and the counterweight. The driving device has a driving sheave which is provided in an upper extension part of the clearance and whose turning shaft crosses the shaft wall on one side orthogonally, a reduction gear provided on a car side for the driving sheave, and a motor whose turning shaft crosses the turning shaft of the driving sheave orthogonally.
