PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the hydrorefining of a gas oil that exhibits excellent effects of high hydrogenation capability, high desulfurization activity and the like in a catalytic refining reaction of a light cycle oil and the like including a difficult-to-desulfurize substance such as an alkyl dibenzothiophene or the like, and uses a base metal catalyst free from the deterioration in catalytic activity due to poisoning by hydrogen sulfide or the like generated during the hydrodesulfurization reaction of the gas oil. SOLUTION: The method for the hydrorefining of a gas oil is a method for hydrorefining by bringing a gas oil fraction into contact with a catalyst under hydrorefining conditions in a vertically elongated reactor of a fixed-bed type wherein a first reaction zone of the vertically elongated reactor of the fixed-bed type is filled with a cobalt/molybdenum catalyst and a second reaction zone of the vertically elongated reactor of the fixed-bed type is filled with a nickel/molybdenum catalyst, which comprises feeding the gas oil to the vertically elongated reactor of the fixed-bed type from the upper part of the first reaction zone thereof and introducing hydrogen into the vertically elongated reactor of a fixed-bed type from the lower part of the second reaction zone thereof.
