PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method capable of obtaining a naphthalene sulfonic acid formalin condensate of a low formaldehyde content without employing a peroxide. SOLUTION: This production method comprises the steps of sulfonation, formaldehyde condensation reaction, alkalization, desalting and deformaldehyde process. In this case, the pH of the reaction mixture after the sulfonation and the formaldehyde condensation reaction is adjusted to 10.5-12.5 for the alkalization, and the reaction mixture after the desalting is adjusted to 10.5-12.5 pH and 50-90°C temperature for the deformaldehyde step to reduce the amount of formaldehyde.
