<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device for which increase of the number of manufacturing steps and a cost of the product are suppressed and which is excellent in display quality, and a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with: an array substrate 1 having a substrate, a plurality of pixel electrodes 16 and a plurality of common electrodes 17 producing an electric field in a first direction, and an alignment layer 19; a counter substrate having a substrate, and an alignment layer 21; a display region having a plurality of transmissive regions R3 and a plurality of reflective regions R4; a liquid crystal layer 3 having a plurality of first liquid crystal layers 31 of which the long axis direction of liquid crystal molecules is parallel to a second direction d2, and a plurality of second liquid crystal layers 32 in which liquid crystal molecules take on twisted orientation and a phase of incident light is shifted by nearly one-quarter of the wavelength or more at 550 nm wavelength; a first polarizer 5; a second polarizer 6; and a backlight unit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
