METHOD AND OPTICAL NETWORK UNIT FOR ETHERNET PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK

An ONU(Optical Network Unit) of an E-PON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) and a control method thereof are provided to prevent malfunctions previously in abnormal operations by monitoring an optical output control signal during upstream and cut off effects on the other normal ONU. An MAC(Media Access Control) unit(100) accesses media as avoiding temporal redundancy in order to transmit signals without TDM(Time Division Multiplexing) time slots during upstream to an OLT(Optical Line Terminal)(10). A burst mode optical transceiver(110) converts the signals from the MAC into an optical signal having an inherently-assigned wavelength and outputs the converted signal during upstream of the signal from the MAC. A complex programmable logic device(120) monitors an optical output control signal from the MAC to control optical output of the burst mode optical transceiver.
