The device (1) has an adjustment mechanism (3) that automatically moves a vehicle door (2) i.e. back door, between initial and end positions (A, E) by shifting center of gravity of the door. The door is held in the positions in a balanced condition by using a spring unit and/or a hydraulic cylinder. The mechanism comprises an actuator that serves as a mass body and is adjustably arranged as a translatory adjustable mass unit (4) on a guide. The body is arranged on a disk that is rotatable by the actuator.
