Medicines for inhibiting the activation of AP-1, containing as the active ingredient substances selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by the general formula (I) and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, and hydrates and solvates of both:wherein X is a connecting group whose main chain has 2 to 5 carbon atoms and which may have a substituent; A is hydrogen or acetyl; E is optionally substituted aryl or optionally substituted heteroaryl; and Z is arene which may have a substituent in addition to the groups represented by the general formulae: -O-A, wherein A has the same meaning as that defined above and -X-E, or heteroarene which may have a substituent in addition to the groups represented by the general formulae: -O-A and -X-E, where each of X and E has meaning as that defined above.
