STEERING COLUMN DEVICE EQUIPPED WITH KNEE AIRBAG DEVICE ATTACHED TO COLUMN

摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To largely deploy an airbag door when restricted by a design of an instrument panel, or even when the position of a steering wheel is moved to the front side of the column axial direction by a telescopic mechanism.

SOLUTION: A tilt telescopic drive mechanism part 40 is disposed on a column tube 26 of a steering column device 12. An ECU 80 is connected to a drive motor 42 for the telescopic. A pre-crash sensor 82 is connected to the ECU 80. When a frontal collision is predicted by the pre-crash sensor 82, the drive motor 42 for telescopic is driven in the reverse direction by the ECU 80, an inner tube 36 of the column tube 26 is made to be fully stroked to an occupant side. The interference (intersection) of the airbag door 60 with visible outlines 18A, 18B of the instrument panel 18 can be avoided.
