<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately detect a lesion region without being affected by a difference in acquisition environment of images in the body cavity. <P>SOLUTION: A lesion candidate region extraction section 16 extracts a convex lesion candidate region and a concave lesion candidate region based on pixels whose pixel values are changed compared with peripheral pixels. A groove determination section 17 determines a region falling under a shadow of the groove formed by being clamped between the body cavity and an organ wall from the concave lesion candidate region, as a groove region.
