PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas barrier material which enhances affinity between a filler and a resin and improves insufficient dispersibility of the filler and thereby improves gas barrier properties, and has excellent gas barrier performance.SOLUTION: In a powdery substance in which a crystal end face of a silicate compound is treated with a silane coupling agent, the silicate compound is a non-swelling laminar silicate compound having interlayer ions.
