PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic display element with the excellent transparency, capable of emitting light with clear color.SOLUTION: The electrochromic display device comprises: a display substrate 21, display electrodes (22, 25, 28), electrochromic layers (23, 26, 29) provided in contact with the display electrodes, a counter substrate 35 provided opposite to the display substrate, a counter electrode 33, a charge holding layer 32 provided in contact with the counter electrode, and an electrolyte layer 30 provided between the display substrate and the counter substrate. The electrochromic layer includes at least a particle including an insulating material, titanium oxide, and an electrochromic compound. The electrochromic layer includes at least a particle including an insulating material, and an electrochromic compound.
