[Problem] To provide a storage element having both high information holding characteristics and low power consumption. [Solution] The storage element comprises a fixed layer, a storage layer, an intermediate layer, and a heating layer. The fixed layer comprises a first ferromagnetic layer having a fixed orthogonal magnetization. The storage layer comprises a second ferromagnetic layer having an orthogonal magnetization that can be inverted by spin injection. The intermediate layer, which comprises an insulating body, is disposed between the storage layer and the fixed layer. The heating layer, which comprises a resistive heating body, is disposed on at least one among the storage layer and the fixed layer. This configuration allows the provision of a storage element having both high information holding characteristics and low power consumption.
