An image processing apparatus for generating image data of an original based on images read by a plurality of sensor units arranged in a main scanning direction so that a reading area of each sensor unit partially overlaps with a reading area of an adjacent sensor unit, and each sensor unit reading an image of a partial region divided from a region of the original along a sub-scanning direction, the apparatus comprising:
a storage unit configured to store attachment position information indicating an attachment, position of each sensor unit; and a geometric correction unit configured to perform tilt correction based on placement information of the original and attachment error correction based on the attachment position information for image data output from the plurality of sensor units, and perform joint processing for the corrected image data so as to generate image data of the original, wherein (a) the tilt correction is processing of correcting a tilt of the original in the image data, (b) the tilt of the original is detected for each original read, (c) the attachment error correction is processing of correcting an attachment error of each sensor unit in image data output from the sensor unit, and (d) as a part of the attachment error, each sensor unit has a different tilt.
