PURPOSE:To effect isomerization of an olefin in the presence of a specific solid base, thus producing an inner olefin stably in high yield with high catalyst activity without formation of by-products such as polymers. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a stabilized inner olefin by isomerization of an olefin, a solid base is used as a catalyst, which is prepared by heating an alumina, preferably gamma- or alpha-alumina of 100-300 mesh particle sizes, together with an alkali metal hydroxide in an inert atmosphere at 200-500 deg.C, preferably 250-400 deg.C for 0.5-10hr, then with an alkali metal hydride for 10-300min. The amount of the catalyst used is 1/3,000-1/20 by weight based on the feed, while the isomerization reaction is conducted at -30-120 deg.C, preferably -10-100 deg.C. |
