Throttle valves for the multi-stage expansion of pressurised liquids, vapours and gases, in which expansion takes place by means of an eddy in at least one stage, have low noise and low wear. A disadvantage is that the eddy drags on over a long distance in the flow-off line, then degenerates in a corkscrew-shaped manner and finally dances with its eddy-core end along the pipe wall and thereby causes noise and damage. The wear has therefore been shifted from the valve into the pipeline. If the flow-off line is widened suddenly downstream of the valve, severe cavitation and erosion damage occurs as early as just downstream of the valve. The invention now provides, in the valve outlet, a straightener which nullifies all the non-axial speed-vector fractions, that is to say brings about an eddy-free outlet. For the axial speed-vector fraction, the straightener is designed in such a way that the pressure rise occurring as a result of pulse exchange cannot cause any cavitation downstream of the straightener.
