In the case of a coil winding machine having a flexible supporting strip as part of a transportation device for the coil former, these items are connected on their one side to the supporting strip, while the other side projects freely - even during winding. In this machine, the wire guide rotates in a fixed position, the feed movement along the coil former being effected by displacing the entire supporting strip. The coil winding machine (1) according to the invention has a wire guide (2) which also carries out the feed movement and in whose interior an opposing bearing (50) is arranged which can be pressed against the coil former (21) by the feed movement of the wire guide (2) so that the coil former (21) is fixed and cannot oscillate during winding.
