PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the ineffective part by the nonuniformity of oriented films in a display surface and to miniaturize a liquid crystal display element by providing the oriented films so as to cover approximately the entire surface exclusive of the sealing parts of glass substrates and dissolving away the oriented films of the parts to constitute terminal parts after the sealing stage of the liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:The oriented films 5 are formed approximately over the entire surface of the glass substrate 2A exclusive of, for example, a seal disposing part 5a, to be disposed with a sealing part 6 of the glass substrates 2A, 2B disposed to face each other in a later stage. The oriented films 5 of the glass substrates 2A, 2B formed in such a manner are subjected to an orientation treatment and thereafter, the respective oriented film 5 sides are disposed to face each other. The sealing part 6 is provided in the seal disposing part 5a and a liquid crystal material 7 is sealed therebetween, by which the liquid crystal display element 1 is obtd. The liquid crystal display element 1 is cleaned by using a solvent 8, such as, for example, n-methyl pyrrolidone, to dissolve away the oriented films 5 covering the terminal parts 4. The generation of the ineffective part in the display surface 1a is then obviated and the entire surface thereof is usable for the display. |
