A pair of current conducting stems carrying the endface contact pieces moving axially relative to each other, is arranged in the switching housing. A screen (37;41) is arranged, electrically-insulated, opposite the housing part (32) and the contacts (6,7). The screen is arranged so that a first screening section (37a,41a) at least surrounds the electrically insulated contact piece (4) and a part of the switching gap (S), opposite the housing part (32) of electrically conducting material. The first screening section, together with a second screening section, (37b, 41b) is established for the purpose of directing the emission away from the switching gap. At least one part of the surfaces of the screen, the housing part and the components (39,40) insulate the contact (6). A screen (36) is arranged in the connection at the edge surface of the contact (4) electrically insulated opposite the housing part (32) for the formation of a system of cylindrical capacitors (Ca; Ci) electrically connected in series, working in conjunction with the screen and the wall of the housing part for a capacitive control of the voltage present at the screen in the switched OFF position of the vacuum switch. ADVANTAGE - Voltage distribution can be capacitively controlled to give advantageous measurement of inner insulating distances. Interference prevented.
