<p>PURPOSE: To prevent the incurring of a separation loss of a material under manufacture, transportation, and handling by a method wherein a mat through which a water-absorbent material in powdered or granular form penetrates and on which the material is deposited is compressed and sewn to manufacture a water barrier. CONSTITUTION: A fiber mat 18 having a thickness of approximate 0.5-25 inches and density of 1-10 once per square feet is formed from fibers 14. Thereafter or during formation, a powdered or granular material 20, such as bentonite clay, is sprayed and deposited thereon in a range of approximate 1-80 pts.wt. per pt.wt. of the fibers. To homogenize a material thickness, the fibers 15 of the same kind or a different kind and a powdered or granular material 28 in a similar state described in the fibers are added. Thereafter, by causing the passage of it through a pair of pressure nip rollers 30 and 32, and 36 and 38, the materials are finished into a fiber mat 39. Thereafter, a water barrier 46 formed by causing the passage of it through a needle punching device 40 is wound around a proper shaft to form a roll 48 of a material.</p> |
