PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently separating and recovering nickel, cobalt, and rare-earth metals, which are valuable metals, from a spent nickel metal hydride secondary battery. SOLUTION: The method for recovering the valuable metals from the scrap of the nickel metal hydride secondary battery, comprises crushing the scrap of the spent nickel metal hydride secondary battery, dissolving an active material of the electrodes obtained through physical separation into sulfuric acid including sodium sulfite, to dissolve nickel and cobalt into the sulfuric acid solution, and leaving the rare-earth elements such as La and Nd in a residue. The method for recovering the valuable metals from the scrap of the nickel metal hydride secondary battery, also comprises calcinating the active materials in the electrodes obtained through the above physical separation, in an atmosphere of 400-600 deg.C, and dissolving the obtained calcined substance. |
