PURPOSE: To obtain a water-in-oil type emulsion suitable for cosmetics and/or dermatological treatment of hands by containing a polyol of a specific amount per the total weight of the emulsion as an additional component. CONSTITUTION: This emulsion is formed of a mixed ester of isostearic acid and succinic acid with glycerol, and at least 10 wt.% polyol is contained as an additional component of the emulsion. The emulsion with high polyol content may advantageously be used for the treatment of human hands and does not give substantially a sticky effect on hands and imparts almost no sticky effect to the hands. Moreover, on account of its high polyol content, it penetrates efficiently into the skin and in particular ensures a good moisturization and a high degree of softening, as well as a high penetration into the skin leading to a reduction in erythema and chapping.
