Short-circuit indicator for lightning arrester on HV overhead line

The indicator includes two cylindrical electrodes (1,2) that flank a varistor (3). Electrical contact between the varistor and electrodes is established by two discs (4). The three components are assembled into a tube (5) of insulating material which presents a vertical slit. A resistor (7) mounted in the slit is connected to the electrodes via two conductors (8,9). The tube with all the components is cast in an external envelope (10) surrounded by a cylinder (11). The first electrode is connected to a lighting arrester (13) while the second is connected to earth.
