PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the automatic focusing operation time based on the high frequency component of an image signal. SOLUTION: While moving a focusing lens every step from infinity to a close range (S2 and S5), an AF (automatic focusing device) evaluated value being the total value of the high frequency component is obtained at each step position (S3). In an area where the value is equal to or above a specified threshold (S4), the maximum value MAX of the AF evaluated value is obtained (S6 and S7), and whether or not the AF evaluated value is consecutively reduced the specified number of times or more is decided (S8 to S11). At the time of detecting that the AF evaluated value is consecutively reduced the specified number of times or more, the movement of the focusing lens is stopped at that position and the focusing lens is restored by setting the step position where the maximum value MAX is obtained as a focusing position (S12). |
