<p>Disclosed is a device for illuminating and/or processing a surface, especially for shaping the cornea by means of light, comprising at least one light source emitting a beam of light and more particularly a laser beam, and an optical system which guides the beam of light or laser beam to the surface to be illuminated or processed and consists of a device for homogenizing said beam. The invention is characterized in that the device for homogenizing the beam has at least one homogenizer element with a plurality of faceted members dividing the light hitting each facet in an approximately even manner on at least one cross-sectional area of said beam at a given distance from the homogenizer element. This enables intensity to be homogenized to a high degree, independent of temporal or spatial distribution, divergence, laser beam mode structure or possible adjustment errors.</p> |
