PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical branching unit by which the surplus part of a coated optical fiber ribbon is easily stored and taken out. SOLUTION: The inside of a case is divided into a main unit 2 and a surplus storage part 3, where a ribbon insertion part 17 for a coated optical fiber ribbon 7 and 1st and 2nd guides 5 and 6 which have a larger radius of curvature than a predetermined allowable radius of curvature and guide the insertion direction of the inserted coated optical fiber ribbon 7 are provided. The main unit 2 is provided with an optical demultiplexer 24 by connecting it to an optical fiber 23 on the tip side of the coated optical fiber ribbon 7. The 1st guide 5 has a curved part 18 which is convex to the inside of the surplus part 3 and the curvature part 18 restricts the deflection direction of the coated optical fiber ribbon 7 toward the inside of the surplus storage part 3; and the 2nd guide part restricts the curvature of the coated optical fiber ribbon 7 to a radius of curvature smaller than the allowable radius of curvature due to excessive bending of the inwardly deflected coated optical fiber ribbon 7 toward the inside of the surplus storage part. |
