PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the brightness and the whiteness of a liquid crystal display device with respect to a promising reflection liquid crystal display device which uses an external light source to reduce the power consumption of the liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: With respect to the liquid crystal; display device consisting of upper and lower substrates 1 and 11 facing each other with a prescribed gap between them and liquid crystal 16 enclosed between them, the upper substrate 1 is arranged on the observer side, and at least a diffusion plate 20 is provided on the lower substrate 11 or on the lower face side of the lower substrate 11, and a lower polarizing plate 22 is provided on the lower face side of the diffusion plate 20, and further, at least either a semitransparent reflection plate 25a or a reflection plate 25b is provided. The white diffusion plate 22 doesn't have any phase difference and doesn't have any transmittance difference for each wavelength in the visible light area. |
