PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce weight of a cooking appliance without impairing performance such as original heat conductivity of the cooking appliance by forming the cooking appliance, particularly, a large frying pan for Chinese dishes out of a composite material of aluminum or a heat resistant aluminum alloy as a matrix by dispersively reinforcing with ceramic short fiber. SOLUTION: A lightweight frying pan 1 is manufactured from a composite material formed with aluminum or a heat resistant aluminum alloy as a matrix and dispersively reinforced by ceramic short fiber. In this case, SiC short fiber is used as the ceramic short fiber, and the frying pan is formed so that a fiber volume rate of this SiC short fiber becomes 65%. When manufacturing such a frying pan 1, after putting the SiC short finer in a metal mold so that the fiber volume rate becomes 65%, aluminum molten metal is poured into the metal mold to be molded in a shape of the frying pan 1 by a high pressure casting method. The frying pan can be used without scorching by applying Teflon(R) processing 2 after applying white anodized aluminum processing to the inside surface of the molded frying pan 1.
