PURPOSE: A phone set and a method for stopping a temporarily occurring terminating tone are provided to avoid a phone violence and a prank call by preventing a terminating tone from generating even if a predetermined signal is inputted from a telephone office to a customer by setting a time period during which a phone user would not like to answer a phone and inputting a terminating tone temporarily generated starting time and an ending time in a simple manipulation of external keys. CONSTITUTION: When a user inputs a starting time of a destination ring signal temporarily stop function to a function setting button unit(1), and input s completion time of the destination signal temporarily stop function(2). When a predetermined signal is received from a telephone office to a customer, a condenser performs charging or discharging according to the applied predetermined signal. A voltage discharged from the condenser is inputted to a destination signal detector. A photo coupler of the destination signal detector is continuously turned on or off by the voltage discharged from the condenser, generates a square wave signal and inputs it to a microprocessor. The microprocessor determines that the predetermined signal is applied from the telephone office to the customer according to the square wave signal(5), compares the terminating tone temporarily generation stop function time inputted by the user and the current time of the signal applied from the telephone office(6), lights an LED to display that the terminating tone temporarily generation stop function time has been set(8). When the microprocessor determines that the signal inputted from the telephone office is the signal inputted at a ring signal generation stop time set by the user(7), it controls a switching unit through a control bus to switch off a switch contact point to block a flow of current applied to a speaker driving unit, so that the speaker driving unit does not generate a terminating tone(9). The switch contact point of the switching unit is switched to an LED signal lighting contact point and blinks an LED lamp(10) so that the user is informed of the state in which the phone is destined. When the destination signal applied from the telephone office to the customer is completed, the microprocessor determines the destination completion(11), turns on the contact point of the switching unit to a speaker driving unit contact point(12) and simultaneously turns off the LED lamp contact point(13) so that the phone set maintains a destination standby state.
