PURPOSE: A gear train for automatic transmission makes 5 advance speeds and a reverse speed by using 3 planet gears and 5 friction elements, improves the efficiency of power and realizes a small and a light body. CONSTITUTION: A gear train comprises a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd planet gears(PG1,PG2,PG3), a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd clutches(C1,C2,C3) and a 1st and a 2nd breaks(B1,B2). The 1st planet gear(PG1) has an element variably connected to an input shaft(1) and a transmission housing(3), and an element fixedly connected to a transfer drive gear(5). The 2nd planet gear(PG2) has an element variably connected to the input shaft(1) and a member of the 1st planet gear(PG1), an element variably connected to the input shaft(1) and the transmission housing(3) after being fixedly connected to the other member of the 1st planet gear(PG1). The 3rd planet gear(PG3) has an element fixedly connected to the transmission housing(3), an element fixedly connected to the transfer drive gear(5) after being fixedly connected to a member of the 1st planet gear(PG1), and an element fixedly connected to a member of the 2nd planet gear(PG2). In order for the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd planet gears(PG1,PG2,PG3) to transform the inputs transferred to the input shaft(1) into 5 advance speeds and a reverse speed and transfer them to the transfer drive gear(5), the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd clutches(C1,C2,C3) variably connect a certain member of the 1st and the 2nd planet gears(PG1,PG2) to the input shaft(1) or variably connect certain members of the 1st and the 2nd planet gears(PG1,PG2) between themselves, and the 1st and the 2nd breaks(B1,B2) variably connect a certain member of the 1st and the 2nd planet gears(PG1,PG2) to the transmission housing(3).
