The plate has a groove (10) in the rear of the butt (1). There is a spacer (2,8) with a sleeve round it at the front. This sleeve has at least one engaging lip (12,20,21) on part or all of its circumference. The lip forms a snap lock with the groove. The spacer may have a groove (14) to its rear, identical to the butt's. There may be a butt plate cap with a sleeve (5) round it with at least one engaging lip (6) to snap fit into this groove.
