OPTICAL FILM AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an optical film capable of forming such a liquid crystal display that is thin and light in weight, bright and easy to see and that can be used as an external light type and also as a lighting type by efficiently switching an optical path of light made incident from the side face of the liquid crystal display panel into a viewing direction. SOLUTION: The optical film (10) is constructed by distributing light emitting means (A) comprising projecting parts or recessing parts equipped with optical path switching lopes (a) with 35-48 deg. inclined angles (θ1) with respect to the film surface on one surface of a transparent film so as to attain 75-92% total light transmittance and 4-20% haze and the liquid crystal display is constructed by arranging the optical film on one side of the liquid crystal display panel so as to place the side having the light emitting means on the outside. Consequently, transmissive and reflective liquid crystal displays used as the external light type also as the lighting type with excellent display quality are formed by arranging a light source on the side face of the liquid crystal display panel to which the optical film is stuck.
