A method for setting caption viewing rating is provided to selectively restrict the output of caption contents by controlling the outputting of a caption file so that the only caption text section, where a caption viewing rating identifier is included, is not displayed on a screen. A video file, an audio file, and a caption file constitute a DivX file. A caption viewing rating identifier is set in a section of caption text contents of the caption file, which a user desires not to display on a screen(S306). It is determined whether the caption viewing rating identifier is included in the caption file when the DivX file is reproduced(S308). The outputting process of the caption file is controlled so that the only caption text section, where the caption viewing rating identifier is included, is not displayed on the screen(S310).
