PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cushioning material which is free from scratching even for a fruit having soft peels (such as pears inclusive of a "Twenty Century Pear"), and effectively protects the fruit in transportation and storage, and also to provide a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: A sheet-like resin foam 1 forming the cushioning material consists of a foamed sheet main body 2 and projective ribs 3 formed on a surface of the sheet main body at predetermined intervals in parallel with each other. The resin foam is composed of a resin composition containing: (1) a polyethylene resin of 100 pts.wt.; (2) a polystyrene resin of 30 to 80 pts.wt.; and (3) a soft ethylene copolymer such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, of 10 to 50 pts.wt. Provided that the thickness of the sheet main body is represented by A, the height of the rib from the surface of the sheet main body by B, the pitch of the ribs by C, and the width of each rib by D, the following relationships are satisfied: B/A=0.1 to 1.3, C/(A+B)=0.6 to 3; and D/A=0.8 to 3.
