PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work positioning method and a work positioning device capable of positioning a work with respect to an L-shaped weld line. SOLUTION: When a cutout work 300 having a right-angle cutout part and a joint work 310 are butt-welded to each other, the cutout work 300 arranged on a main table 2 is butted to a cutout work reference member 73 and positioned, and held by the main table 2. Also, the joint work 310 arranged on a sub table 3 is butted to a joint work reference member 83 and a joint work sub reference member 93 and positioned, and held by the sub table 3. Thereafter, either or each of the main table 2 and the sub table 3 is longitudinally moved, and the sub table 3 is transversely moved, thereby the cutout work 300 and the joint work 310 are positioned.
