The system (1) has a starter battery (3), and a main power supply battery (2) for supplying an electrical consumer of a main power supply (4) of a vehicle with energy during the operation of the vehicle. Vehicle-internal control devices (5, 6) are provided for controlling an access system when an engine of the vehicle is stopped, and are connected with the electrical consumer over a communication bus (9). The control devices are supplied with energy through the starter battery independent of a charge condition of the main power supply battery. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a battery system of a vehicle.
