The gas sensor has an electrode (1) and a porous ceramic protective layer (2) applied on the electrode. The porous ceramic protective layer comprises three successive layers (3,4,5) of different porosity and that the porosity of respective layer is increased with increasing distance of the layer of the electrode. The material of the gas sensor is formed of a layer which consists of zirconium oxide, yttrium-stabilized zirconium oxide, aluminum oxide or yttrium oxide. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing of gas sensor.
