PLUGGABLE API FIREWALL FILTER

A web server includes a servlet and a pluggable API firewall filter coupled to the servlet. The pluggable filter protects the web server from content based attacks by rejecting messages received from a client device. The pluggable filter includes a .jar, and the .jar is placed into a class path of the web server or packaged into a target web application archive (WAR).

1. A web server comprising:
a processor; a storage device coupled to the processor that stores instructions; wherein, when the instructions are executed by the processor, the processor implements: a servlet; and a pluggable filter coupled to the servlet that protects the web server from content based attacks by rejecting messages received from a client device; wherein the pluggable filter comprises a Java Archive (JAR) file, and the JAR file is placed into a class path of the web server or packaged into a target web application archive (WAR); wherein an incoming message comprises a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request from the client device, and when the incoming message is rejected the incoming message is prevented from reaching the servlet.
