PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of ignition performance due to the deposition of carbon during transporting a vehicle to a user, by increasing an intake air quantity when a total running distance of the vehicle or a total operating time of an engine is less than a predetermined value as compared with the case that such a distance or time is greater than the predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:The control device includes an idling condition detecting means A for detecting that an engine is at idling, an engine temperature detecting means B, and a total time/distance detecting means C for detecting a total operating time of the engine or a total running distance of a vehicle. When it is detected that the engine is at idling, an intake air quantity is controlled by an intake air quantity control means D so as to set an engine speed to a target idling speed. At idling of the engine, when it is determined that the total operating time or the total running distance is less than a predetermined value, and an engine temperature is less than a predetermined value, the intake air quantity is corrected to be increased by an increase correcting means E.
