The inclined awning (1), partic. for interior shading, has travel rails (2,3) spaced apart and sloping downwards from their rear ends. A curtain (11) in strip form is joined at the forward end to a ballast rail (37), and also at intervals to parallel supporting bars (14) with components (17) at the ends working in the rails. Extension and retraction is by a rear rotary drive (34,35) with belts (33) engaged by holders travelling along the rails. When each holder strikes a release on the rail it is freed from the belt, while it engages with the belt on moving away from the mechanism. When fully extended, the awning forms a sloping (12) and a vertical (13) section. The forward end of the curtain is so secured to the ballast rail that it cannot turn, while the belts rotate the rail so as to coil or uncoil the curtain. ADVANTAGE - Keeps vertical section smooth in all positions.
