<p>A device and a method for predicting and encoding an image which are remarkably improved in conversion efficiency compared with the conventional technology, a device and a method for predicting and decoding image, and a recording medium on which the method for predicting and encoding an image and the method for predicting and decoding image are recorded. In the device and method for predicting and encoding an image, inputted image data to be encoded are divided into image data on a plurality of adjacent small areas. When the image data of a small area to be processed are encoded out of the image data of the adjacent small areas, already reproduced image data of a small area adjacent to the image data of the small area to be processed are regarded as the in-image predicted image data of the small area. Then the in-image predicted image data are regarded as the optimum predicted image data of the small area. Image data of a differential small area which is the difference between the image data of the small area to be processed and the those of the optimum predicted small area are generated. After generation, the image data of the differential small area are encoded and outputted and, at the same time, the reproduced image data of the reproduced small area are generated by decoding the generated image data of the differential small area and adding the decoded image data of the differential small area to the image data of the optimum predicted small area to be predicted.</p> |
