The workpieces lie in a stack (1) on a lifting table and are moved by a slider. An adjustable counter-holder (3) and holding-down member (8) are provided. The holding-down member is formed by a contact bearing skid (11), such as a row of rollers, which rises up towards the stack. Its delivery edge (13) lies in a vertical plane with the edge (14) of the counter-holder which is placed against the stack. The vertical distance (A) between these two edges is freely adjustable. The drives for the vertical and horizontal adjustment of the counter-holder and holding-down member are coupled together so that after setting the vertical spacing between the two edges the holding down member and counter-holder are moved synchronously and in the same directions.
