PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for determining the winding diameter easily and continuously by measuring specified dimensions, e.g. the initial outside diameter of a roll, previously and then operating the outside diameter of the roll at the time of winding according to a specific formula. SOLUTION: When a sheet-like matter 1 is fed out from a roll on a winding core 2, final outside diameter re of the roll, initial diameter rs of the sheet-like matter 1 being wound, film thickness (t) and length IS of the roll are measured previously and an air entraining coefficientαis calculated according to a formula;α×t=(rs <2> -re <2> )/(π×IS). Subsequently, the outside diameter (r) of the sheet-like matter at the time of winding is operated using a previously calculated air entraining coefficient according to a formula; r=(π×α×t×I+rs <2> )<1/2> . When the air entraining coefficientαis calculated previously, it is not required to be calculated each time so long as a same kind of apparatus is used.
