This invention is a peristaltic pump comprising a pump head housing (14) having an interior cavity which is sealed, and a vacuum port (32) communicating with the interior cavity to allow creation of a partial vacuum within the interior cavity. A pump head rotor (12) disposed within the interior cavity is driven by a pump head drive mechanism (10). Resilient tubing (16) passes into the housing (14), loops around the pump head rotor (12), and passes out of the housing (14).
