The partially evacuated enclosure (4) is surrounded by at least a part of the electron gun (3) and both are supported by a chassis (6). This chassis (6) has at least a guide which guides the displacement of the electron gun (3). The partial vacuum generating system (4, 14,15) creates a local partial vacuum on both sides of the zone to be welded.
