PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a support body for an electrophotographic photoreceptor which gives good characteristics with no image defects and little changes in the potential by repeated use by subjecting the surface of the support body to plasma cleaning and oxidation treatment with plasma produced by glow discharge using a gas essentially comprising oxygen under reduced pressure. SOLUTION: Relating to an electrophotographic photoreceptor having a photosensitive layer on a conductive supporting body, the conductive supporting body is treated in the low temperature plasma produced under reduced pressure to decompose and remove the oil and fat content on the surface as well as to oxidize the support body surface to form an oxidized film. Namely, by low temperature plasma produced under reduced pressure, the oil and fat content on the support surface is decomposed and removed as well as the surface of the support body is oxidized by the low temperature plasma to form an oxidized film. Thus, the support body can be obtained for an electrophotographic photoreceptor on which good images without interference fringes, moires, stripes in an image, halftone irregularities and black spots in a white base can be obtained and which has good characteristics with little changes in the potential for repeated use.
