The present invention relates to gene silencing methods, more particularly to homology-dependent trans silencing methods. The invention relates to methods for efficiently downregulating any gene in a cell or organism. The invention provides for nucleic acid transgene constructs and vectors for use in said methods. The invention further relates to the use of said constructs or vectors in the production of transgenic cells and transgenic organisms.
