PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with which high quality image can be obtained by excellent treatment for formation of an ink image sticking on a recording medium for which a treating liquid is used. SOLUTION: The present image forming apparatus comprises a carriage (2, 32, 102, 302, 342) provided for relatively moving an ink jet recording head (1, 101, H) discharging the ink containing a color material from a ink discharge port, in relation to a recording medium P and a coating roller (13, 33) as a treating liquid applying means for applying the treating liquid for agglomerating the color material in the ink to the recording medium, or an absorber (12, 15, 31, 312, 323, 333c). The treating liquid applying means comes into contact with the recording medium and applies the treating liquid thereto, prior to the discharge of the ink onto the recording medium P by the ink jet recording head. These means are mounted on the carriage. |
